Rock star Linda Perry, the writer behind Christina Aguilera’s 2002 hit, “Beautiful”, is expecting her first child with wife, Sara Gilbert. The couple announced their engagement in 2013 and were wed in March of this year, and it seems the news of a child could not have come at a better time. Perry, just wrapped up the first season of her VH1 show, Make of Break: The Linda Perry Project, in which she sought a new artist to sign to her label. Gilbert, who rose to fame during her role as Darlene Conner on the popular sitcom Rosanne, is currently a co-host on CBS’ The Talk.
After the couple’s wedding earlier this year, when Gilbert returned to The Talk she discussed couple’s wedding and described marriage as “different than you expect.” She elaborated by saying, “You feel like you’re part of this institution and it’s official, and, oh, I better not mess this up. You feel safer in a way and you feel like you’ve really committed and it’s not about, can I deal with this … or not deal with it. It becomes, how will we deal with our relationship together?
Gilbert made the announcement of her pregnancy on Tuesday before the The Talk’s “Facing Your Fears” challenge during which she planned to face her fear of getting hurt by lying on a bed of nails and having a cinder block broken over her stomach. “Before we go I just want to say I’m actually not going to do the dare,” Gilbert confessed. “”I was scared to do it and I really believe in facing your fears, but I actually can’t do the dare because I’m pregnant.” Gilbert’s co-host immediately expressed their excitement, with Aisha Tyler lifting Gilbert off the ground with a congratulatory hug, and Julie Chen stating: “We’re having a baby at The Talk. I feel like all five of us are giving birth.” The crowd also joined in on the excitement as they began to chant “Sara, Sara, Sara” in support of the co-host’s pregnancy. While Gilbert already has two children from her previous relationship with TV producer Allison Adler, her current pregnancy will be the first child that the she and Perry have together.
