It hasn’t been a great week for Ms. Toni Braxton. Toni recently revealed that she and her fiancé, Birdman, had broken up not long after New Year’s Day. Moreover, it was revealed today that Braxton owes approximately $500,000 dollars in taxes to the IRS.
Acquired by E! News, the court records indicate that in the last month, the IRS filed a lien against the pop music and reality star. The amount is for $340,200 for 2017, as well as $116,100 from the Franchise Tax Board of California.
In total, Braxton owes $456,000. Thus far, the star hasn’t commented, but fans online have joked that she is “good for it.” Recently, the star finished her latest tour, The Hits, and she continues to have a starring role in Braxton Family Values.

Additionally, according to a report from The Blast, the IRS and the State of California filed tax liens against her in 2018 for $780,800. Going deeper into the singer’s financial history, in 1998 and in 2010, Toni filed for bankruptcy as well.
In 2010, she claimed to have $1.6 million in assets but unfortunately owed $18.3 million. The Wall Street Journal was the publication to reveal these numbers in 2011.
The WSJ said later she won an order ridding her from some debts in the 2010 bankruptcy case. Some fans on social media have wondered how a long-time star such as Toni would land in such financial trouble, considering her long and illustrious career as a performer, as well as a reality star.
Putting her tax drama aside, Toni has gone down in history as one of the most iconic singers in R & B. Moreover, she earned a litany of awards, including the Best Dressed of the Decade in 2011 from the Grammys.
Her performance at the 2000 Superbowl has also gone down in history as arguably the most memorable of all time. Her microphone cost $1,000,000 alone, and her famous prop was studded with 650 karats of diamonds.

Perhaps, her penchant for expensive jewelry, material possessions, and flashy outfits has led her to financial problems? Admittedly, Toni isn’t the only one to struggle with the IRS; other stars to deal with tax-problems lately include Tyga and DMX.
