Ringside News exclusively reported in August that there was an internal belief within WWE that Edge was going to AEW. A short time later, Sean Sapp reported that there was also belief within AEW that Tony Khan would ink Adam Copeland to a contract.

During the media conference after WWE Fastlane, Triple H was asked about Edge leaving WWE. He was quite honest with his reply, because he probably saw this coming, as many did within the company.

“Time was right for him and time was right for us. I think he had an amazing send-off here. I think he had felt like he had done what he had to do, and we felt, ‘you’re right.’ I think he said it the other say that there’s no animosity here. He’s doing what’s right for him and his family, and I’m happy for him. I’m very, very happy for him. I sent him that in a message, ‘I’m happy for him’ I’m proud of him and happy for him.”

“This has gotta be right for you, it’s a grind, and if any opportunity is better for them, great, that’s wonderful. But, the machine doesn’t stop for anyone, right? We’re just gonna continue to grow and we’re gonna continue to do what we do.”

Triple H also said that Adam Copeland leaving WWE “creates opportunity” and “there is a line of people who are capable” of taking Edge’s spot in the company. Only time will tell who steps up to really take that spot that the Rated R Superstar left behind.
